Frontiers of Research in Caribbean Science and Technology (FORECAST) Academic Conference

Judy Lang

Coral Scientist, Atlantic and Gulf Rapid Reef Assessment Program

About me

As a scientist, Judy Lang has studied coral reefs in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean for over 40 years. She has been engaged with the Atlantic and Gulf Rapid Reef Assessment (AGRRA) protocols and surveys since the late 1990s. Since 2005, she has served as the AGRRA Science Coordinator and along with her colleagues, has prepared many of the programme's instructional and training materials. With the contagion of a devastating "Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease" (SCTLD) from Florida to the Caribbean, her efforts are concentrated on helping regional colleagues to combat and prevent the disease. She collaborates with several SCTLD response efforts, e.g., the GCFI-NOAA MPAConnect network, and is a Co-lead of the Florida Disease Advisory Committee’s Caribbean Cooperation Team.
